From the previous post we have learned about the weathering and it's agents. Click here to know about the weathering process.
Now, we will learn about the rocks and minerals.
What is rock? The solid mineral material forming part of the surface of the earth and other similar planets, exposed on the surface or underlying the soil or oceans.
What is mineral?
Mineral is an inorganic substance of natural occurrence having definite chemical composition and structure.
Various rocks and minerals |
There are mainly three types of rocks:
1. Igneous rock: This rock is composed of primary minerals such as light colored quartz, muscovite and feldspar and dark colored biotite. When magma comes out by volcanic eruption it cools and becomes an igneous rock.
2. Sedimentary rock: This rocks consist of compacted or cemented weathering products from older, preexisting rocks.
3. Metamorphic rock: These rocks are those rocks that have formed by the metamorphism or change in form of other rocks.
If we see the videos added below, it can be more clear to us about these rocks.

Now we will know the factors influencing soil formation:
1. Parent materials.
2. Climate.
3. Biota.
4. Topography.
5. Time.
